HYCU has announced Resiliency Shield (R-Shield), a cyber resilience feature of its Data Resiliency Cloud (R-Cloud™) data protection platform to improve anomaly and ransomware detection, and offer instant recovery.

The company puts the figure of unmanaged data proportions in many companies as high as 60%, surmising that there are, by dint of being unmanaged assets, few security measures to secure such information.

A press release from the company states, “As much as 80% of attacks today are on fragmented cloud and SaaS applications,” and it positions R-Shield as a way to detect issues and provide recovery capabilities in mixed topologies. Cyber exploitation is a particular problem for organisations that have fragmented IT environments, HYCU suggests, citing attacks that target VMs, data warehouses, finance applications, storage buckets, and git repositories, in addition to problems that stem from simple human error.

“What’s been missing from data protection solutions to date is comprehensive protection for the entire data estate,” said Simon Taylor, founder and CEO of HYCU. “Most solutions offer only limited liability protection focused narrowly on VMs, leaving important parts of the data estate exposed and difficult to recover. We’re now applying […] instant recovery technology for quicker detection […]. With R-Shield, we’re providing organisations with the ability to protect and recover data that was previously challenging at a minimum or nearly impossible to secure.”

R-Shield is a hardened Linux appliance that’s DISA-STIG certified. It has a small footprint, offers backup data cloaking and an isolated, independent network. Software agents are not necessary, and R-Shield requires no gateway nor proxy server configuration.

The platform offers the following features and capabilities:

  • R-Lock immutable backups for SaaS and cloud: Provides customer-owned, offsite immutable backups for SaaS, cloud, and AI/ML workloads.
  • Always watching: Detects new applications, anomalies and threats without compromising data governance and control.
  • Source-level malware detection: Scans near-production copies of virtual data using rule-based and anomaly detection without touching backup storage. Real-time alerts can be sent to SIEM systems.
  • SaaS & app-level discovery: Visualise as-a-service apps used by department, showing applications with backup, recovery, or offsite recovery.
  • Anomaly detection: Monitors for suspicious activities in protected data sources used by hybrid and SaaS.
  • Continuous validation: Ensures backups are viable and ready for restoration to complex distributed environments.
  • Recovery automation & choice: Site-level or granular recovery.
  • Offline recovery: Offsite, offline recovery access to cloud and SaaS apps.

With HYCU R-Shield, customers can protect and recover data that was previously difficult to secure. The solution is designed to increase resilience, reduce costs, and minimise attack windows, without the type of substantial investment that’s associated typically with separate solutions.
